TAX FEAR

February 27th, 2013 at 07:09 pm

Oh SA friends...when I tell you I am shaking in my boots....I can hardly stand it. We are going to owe taxes. I have found as many expenses for deductions as I think I can. And I think I have a big $4000 staring me in the face. I feel sick. Luckily I paid too much on our Unemployment Taxes for the business, so we will get $1000 back. But that still leaves $3000. I have learned a lot from this. Including how important it is to make sure we put our self employment taxes back. But I really thought we would get money back. I assume the IRS will let us do payments??? But how long will that take???

That feeling will make anyone shake in their boots - but take a nice deep breath and start again logically:
    1. Do you know for sure that you will owe this amount
    2. When will you get final assessment back
3.AND then only after those 2 are done, can you make the call to find out about the arrangements.
    4. In the meantime, push the EMF to the max and stop snowballing till this is sorted out. Pay minimums on everything else and get back to meal planning, buy what you need for each weekly menu plan, substitute meat with less expensive forms of protein.
5 Have a yard sale and get rid of the all the stuff you don't really need and stash the cash
6 Raid the entertainment budget and put it into the EMF and just cut cut cut the spending
    7. Now make the call
Get the answer and go from there Smile Goodluch

Sorry Rena Frown That is a terrible feeling to be hit with a blow like that but you can and will recover. Just apply the same basic principals to paying it off as you do for all the other finances and don't give up.

Sorry to hear. Frown The others give good advice. The IRS will let you do payments.

Thanks everybody. We do not have the final numbers yet....still waiting on a few things. But as of now, that is the estimated number. It is very discouraging, but I know we will make it through. I guess any and extra money will go to this now.

When I was a kid my parents owed a LOT in taxes one year (my mom had made an error in checking the wrong box on her tax withholding forms)... it certainly leads to a lot of stress, but the IRS definitely allows for payments. And yeah, that experience provided some insurance that my parents were really on top of their taxes from that year on.
