Wow...budgeting for the year really opens your eyes

November 25th, 2013 at 09:31 pm

I just finished my budget for the year. I feel so inspired. Smile Is that corny? By doing the whole year, I was able to factor in every birthday, celebration, and expense that I could think of. I was able to actually see that I am just months away from 2 of my credit cards being paid off and the last one is right behind. My loan will be paid off this year. My student loan will be closer. I was able to see how much I could put in savings. Its really exciting. I know things come up and change. But I am really working hard to stop being a "money shifter." And I think this will help.

Side note...I had 2 no spend days. Today will be 3. (Ok...so I did purchase something for Christmas online with a gift card....but I didn't spend any of my MONEY. Still counts right?)

It's great isn't it? I guess I always felt like a whole year's budget would make me feel trapped, or sad if things changed. But seeing it all there actually makes me feel secure. If something does change for the worse, I can make wiser decisions on how to adjust with the bigger picture in mind.

I am so more relaxed when I know what my pans are for eh next year or two. Yes, I sometimes have adjustments based on something that happened but I know with a 95% certainty where my money is going and why. It is a freeing feeling.

YaHoo, what a fast turn around! Don't be upset if there are a few tweaks needed along the way. You've a plan, a roadmap to reduce stress and move to goals. Its a wonderful gift to give yourself. Enjoy the holidays

Hmmm. I've never tried doing it for the year, other than setting over-all goals for the year. Do you just go month by month anticipating what you'll spend?
