Fighting the urge

June 4th, 2014 at 06:08 pm

So, we had a "meeting" at our house yesterday as a result of our shocking news. Monday and Tuesday I found myself driving towards the store to buy things to decorate my house. Both times, I turned around and went back to work. I have had 2 NSDs. But I had convinced myself that I "needed" these things. And had mixed feelings about not buying the items. Almost like I was going to be embarassed by how my house looked if I didn't have these decorative items from Hobby Lobby. I guess what matters is that I didn't go. I didn't buy anything.

I have to take my dog to the vet tomorrow. Its time for shots and hearworm. We are taking the money from Savings. I plan on using part of my monthly pet budget to slowly reimburse it. But we have to do it. Especially with all the rain...the mosquitos are going to be bad.

Going to the grocery store tonight. Going to try to spend as little as possible. But the list is long this time.

As a result of the CBC investigative broadcast on veterinary service and cost, I've paid more attention to leading 'suggestions' and asked questions and checked facts on-line.

I too believe the majority of vets are 'padding' the bill with services that aren't necessary unless you live in specific areas. I was pretty shocked when I picked up a price list for their recommended dog food I buy the same product at a local farm feed store for a lower price but see it at the health food store in small bags for nearly double per kg.

Today's vet visit will be right at $100. He is just a year old, so we are doing Rabies vaccine. Won't need to do that again for 3 years. The other vaccine is DHLP. He needs that in order to be neutered since he will have to be in the kennel. Which will be soon. And then $16.50 for a nail trim. We tried cutting them ourselves. It just takes too long and stresses him out...so they do it and it only takes them about 5 minutes. And the heartworm is $28.00 and it lasts 6 months. We have a pond near our house and have had lots of rain, so it appears to be a breeding ground for mosquitos and he is outside quite a bit. Hopefully this takes care of everuthing for a while. Smile
