Still moving in the right direction

November 3rd, 2014 at 08:05 pm

I'm trying really hard to stay focused. Things are moving in the right direction, but slowly. I will update my sidebar today.

I am working to do small things at home to lower our utility bills. Reducing the amount of water in my bath. Shortening showers. Being sure to turn off lights as I leave a room. These are easy things that I can do that should make a little bit of a difference. Probably not TONS....but every little bit counts.

I am trying to stay very structured and planned. I am hoping that if I stay to a schedule and really focus on my budget, maybe I can change my habits. This is a busy week for me. I have a lot planned, so I am hoping for good things.

I don;t think lowering the level of the bath water will make a noticeable change in utilities but you can take a big bite out of items like cable and cell phone services. How much phantom power do you use up with TV, computer, stove for 'instant on'? Do you use a power bar that shuts off electronics? The most expensive appliance in most homes is the dryer. You could run the dryer to partially dry clothes and get them on a hanger to dry on something like an over-the-door jacket rack. There are terrific, easily installed, retractable dryer racks

The electric company tells us to set up our clothes dryer process so that the machine runs continuously staying hot.
It's efficient to cook/bake/roast more than one item in the oven at a time. Roast a chicken and a meat loaf concurrently in the oven for example.
