Extra Money

March 24th, 2011 at 02:52 pm

So I am trying to think of ways that I can work to come up with extra money. We are going through our house to come up with items for a garage sale. I am considering doing some Personal Chef work on the side, although I am not technically a "chef" I am working towards that goal. But I would like to think of other things I can do besides getting an actual PART TIME job. Any ideas?

I would love to beef up my Savings amount and Debt repayment.

Yes, sell things you don't use, is a great idea. There are online sites that will pay cash for used book, cds, dvds and even cell phones and other electronics. Just do an online search for sites.

Babysit. Dog walk. Pet sitting. Mow lawns. Personal shopping service. Shovel driveways. Pick up pet droppings.

Collect and turn in aluminum cans. Save your change and turn in at the end of the money.

I pick up editing and proofreading jobs on the side, because that's my full-time job anyway. Utilizing a specific skill like your chef knowledge is a great idea. My friend who's a great photographer did that on the side and eventually became a full-time photographer.

Now that my family is finally doing better financially, but are extremely busy and strapped for time, we find that we can now pay people to take care of some things for us. Here are things we pay friends to do occasionally: Babysit, feed our cat while we're away, take us to & from airport for trips. We also pay people (not friends but very small businesses) for: daycare, housecleaning, cloth-diaper-cleaning.

If we had a yard or house, I imagine we'd hire help for maintaining those, so that's another possibility.

Hope this gave you some ideas of things you could do!

Offer to do Once A Month Cooking for people, where you prepare 20 (or however many) freezable meals. Post your fliers in the train or bus station, or preschool, where busy people are likely to see it.
