Money in and out....and I need some opinions

June 13th, 2011 at 06:06 pm

Well unfortunately I charged some things to my almost paid off cc. Yes...big mistake. But, it was stuff for our upcoming garage sale and an unexpected gift. Hopefully I can pay back what I charged after the garage sale.

I finally got my rebate for my tires that I bought. And instead of a prepaid Visa, they actually sent a check! Smile So I will be able to deposit that into Savings.

And the insurance adjuster finally came. My husband's truck has $2200.00 in damage and they gave us a check. It has several dings and the windshield is cracked. But my husband's thought is... YES, we have to fix the windshield, but the dings are not horrible and the truck is white so they aren't that noticeable. So he thinks we should deposit the rest into savings, whatever is left after windshield. What do you think?

If you are more in need of savings then ding repairs, then yes. I have a 2000 honda civic with dings that bug me some, but it runs well and I love it.

Its more important to fix the windshield. You may want to price out getting the dings fixed though, in case you want it done in future.

I've personally never paid to repair dings (insurance or not). I'd use it for something else. I think amlost anything else is more important that a "perfect looking vehicle."

Let's face it - the second you fix it there is always something else anyway. At least for me seems to be - I don't even bother trying. I am jinxed to forever have a bump or a scrape on my car. My current car was "hit and ran" the week I bought it. So it goes. Of course I would fix anything that was more than just cosmetic, but that's another story.

You know that when you fix the dings the hail will come back? Big Grin If you want to make sure that Texas gets less hail, keep the dings.

I suggest calling the wreckers as they usually have computerized list of where to get parts, to ask if they have a replacement windshield for make, model and year of truck. They can tell you which glass outlets/shops work with replacement glass. It's more bother but has potential to save about 1/3 the cost. Be sure to ask/get a written guarantee as windshields incorrectly installed will leak. This can be dangerous driving in the rain while it wrecks the interior.

I agree with not getting the dings fixed, but my dh would not. His cars have to be perfect looking and we don't have a ding on any of them!

I agree with everyone else. I wouldn't get the dings fixed. a few dings don't bother me.

I'd get the windshield fixed and bank the rest of the cash. Smile

I'm with the others - get a new windshield, keep the rest. Smile (late to the party, I know) Smile

Unless the dings are somehow causing a problem with driving the car, then I say take the insurance money, repair the windshield, and use the rest as you see fit! If it won't lead to any stress for your husband, then this makes the most sense to me... nice!
