Countdown to Christmas

July 18th, 2012 at 05:05 pm

I can't believe Christmas is in about 5 months. How is this even possible?? To say that I find this a little overwhelming is an understatement. I feel like I have a lot on my financial plate right now, so adding Christmas seems extreme. But I have gone through my budget and trimmed here and there. And I am going to start putting the extra away so I have the cash to spend. Its not very much. If I can ever find a second (or technically 3rd job) then maybe I can use a little of it also. Of course, this is not starting this week, since I will only have 2 dollars. But at least I have come up with a plan. And I think everyone will get homemade shortbread cookies and jams. That should cut down on the gifts. Smile

I personally would be thrilled with homemade jam and cookies! I think that is a good plan. Maybe your $2 could be saved towards ingredients or gift wrap? Pull out an envelope and start stashing a few dollars away when you find them in your wallet. And don't raid it until it is time to buy ingredients!!

I love the cookies idea, and might be doing the same thing! As I look around at friends and family, very few people need anything at all.

I have been giving homemade goodies to many of our friends for the past couple of years simply because none of us need more "stuff" and I can control the spending. Throughout the year I find clean baskets at garage sales, and thrift stores to put these items in. Last year at a garage sale I found some beautiful Christmas napkins that I washed and ironed and put one at the bottom of each basket.

We open a Christmas Club account at our credit union and it is nice having the money available so putting money back is a good idea.

I would love cookies, or hot cocoa mix...homemade is always so welcome. Sounds like a wonderful plan!!
