NeatReceipt

September 12th, 2013 at 08:23 pm

I had been wanting to get a NeatDesk or NeatReceipt for our business paperwork. But...I didn't want to spend the money on it. Well... my mom had 2 NeatReceipts, so now I have one! I haven't tried it out yet, but it seems pretty cool. I have a system for our household paperwork....but if I ever get caught up, maybe I can look into that. I really need to get my butt in gear on the business paperwork. I am a little behind, and that is never good.

I know I'm kind of going off on a tangent here....but am I the only person that feels like they are constantly behind? I see these people that are super organized, with a super clean house, and perfect paperwork, and a nice financial outlook...and I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I've tried major overhauls. I've tried doing little goals. I've tried checklists for each day and detailed budgets. I just feel like I am always trying to catch up. And not with other people...just with how I want my life to be. (Which is kind of similar to those people with the super clean houses, perfect paperwork, and nice financial outlook.) Smile

Ok...I'm done. I guess I just needed to let that out. Goodnight everybody!

If it helps, my home is not organized. Just the kitchen and the financials. The rest of it, well, it gets done when it gets done and sometimes it never gets done!

It's just priorities. Get the most important stuff organized. Lord knows not everything can be perfect all the time.

In addition, I personally put an emphasis on sleep and exercise and quiet time to myself. I think the tendency is to put these kind of things off "because I don't have time." But everything is easier and smoother when I am well rested and energized and my basic needs are met.

Finally, I try to establish one good habit at a time. That's just my personality - I can only focus on one thing at a time. But over time, several good habits and changes stick and layer on top of each other. All the more reason to just smart small. What bothers you the most? Start with a plan for that.

Oh, and forget everyone else. You either see what you want to see or what they want you to see. Meh. It's just not a fair comparison. (My house is mostly a disaster because I really could care less about cleaning. It's boring and it never ends and it's not my thing. I find people tend to assume I am a neat freak just because I am conscientious and generally organized. HA!).

I learned to drop a quest for 'perfect and repeat the mantra ...'done is good enough.' An important thing I learned from joining one of the on-line Organizing Focus Groups that were popular several years ago was that you can't organize clutter. They defined clutter as anything you don't use, don't need, or don't love. For example, if you do wardrobe change out for fall, purge anything you didn't wear this past summer because it was damaged, didn't fit, didn't flatter, uncomfortable etc. If you have kitchen gadgets you don't use, broken, awkward, didn't live up to expectation, sell, re-gift, donate or trash. Just keep the stuff you use and/or love. Be sure to relinquish gifts that don't add to your pleasure.

Our 1st baby step was to introduce a 'new item in - old item out policy. It was tough the 1st two weeks but it's unanticipated benefit was reduced spending. We each knew if we bought new shoes, old shoes of similar type had to go! For DH

    ...just some thoughts

I'm with monkeymama-- one thing at a time! Once you establish a habit, it's easier to go on focusing on another. I'm also with snafu on the "done is good enough" and purging is a great exercise.
