Electric bill shocker and what's with the ads?

January 10th, 2014 at 07:59 pm

Well, I just got our electric bill. YOWZERS! I thought we were being good....I was wrong. That ice storm really killed us. Our bill is $61.00 more than our budgeted amount. I have enough cushion in our household account for the difference, but I was hoping for it to go the other way this month. I need to find us some cost cutting actions this month!!

And I am the only one getting weird ads on the SA homepage? I had an ad with half naked cartoon girls???? What the heck does that have to do with debt and savings and such??

The ads I see seem to be money related, banks and credit cards. I have not seen the one you are referring to.

What are you going to cut to make up for the higher bill?

I know our electric bill will be scary next month because of the really cold air.

Yeah, I saw an ad with skimpily-dressed women bending over and the like. Hope it was just a fluke.

Yes, to those ads - annoying!

Are cookies from other sites tracking your surfing behaviour so as to bring you "targeted" ads?
I use the following extensions for my browser to eliminate or at least reduce this tracking activity:
    "Adblock Plus" and "Self-Destructing Cookies"

I think they are mostly targeted. When I was doing research on fridges I was getting appliance ads here. When I was googling for rabbit supplies it was giving me pet store ads here. When I ordered some printer ink, I got office supply store ads here. Either way they are annoying and obtrusive.

Most of the time, I get the targeted ads too, but these are different. I usually get financial ones and Lands End lately - was looking and found a clearance down jacket to send to my daughter Smile I'm not sure what my "targets" are to get these annoying and on the verge of disgusting ads.

They don't happen all the time, and thinking on it, I wonder if it's when I'm on a little later at night? (And for me that's nearer to midnight, not super late!) Oh well, I know it's time to shut down, and then they are gone in the morning.

I guess I'll have to have my husband check the ad blocks and whatever else protects my computer (though HE may get a little distracted by these ads!)

Missed out on the racy ads, thank goodness. Sorry about your bill...bet all of us have higher electric bills this next time with the frigid temps.

I don't know why my targeted ad would be half naked cartoons.... lol....weird. I'll do some checking on my side.

And we are cutting our grocery bill this week to make up for the overage. And we are making efforts to cut down on our showers, turn off lights, and unplug things so our utility bills will be lower. We will see what happens.

Me neither! Single grandma, living alone -- no one else uses my computer. Why would I get naked ladies? I sure don't go looking for them.
