Just couldn't help it

April 29th, 2014 at 06:51 pm

For weeks now, I have been trying to get my house clean and organized. No matter how hard I try, between lift and work and business paperwork....I just can't get it all done. Sooo.....I broke down and paid a lady to come help me clean. It came out of a cash stash I had. She helped me for 3 hours. Surprisingly, we cleaned for 3 hours and it is still now where I want it. And my office is still a mess. My plan is to finish when I get off work today. Sometimes paying a little bit of money is worth the stress relief.

No other financial happenings right now. Just waiting for Friday.

Rena, great to get it done in only 3 hrs. Did you find the 'organizing' the issue? Once we'd established a place for everything I spent several months making sure it was as easy to put items away as possible. We use an ETE system [Flylady?] which translates Eliminate the Evidence.' For example, when you've finished making a sandwich, everything is put away before you sit down to eat the sandwich... At the end of each day, we all spend 15 minutes as part of our bedtime routine to tidy the public rooms, take dishes to D/W, plump pillows and clear flat surfaces.

Can we help with suggestions to keep your home office organized? What bothers you most?

Honestly, my problem is that I am a "floater." Instead of finishing something, I float on to some other task. So I never get the sense of completion or the reward of seeing a whole room done. Also, the problem with my office is just that my system isn't working. But, I got Quickbooks for the accounting side, so I just have to finish setting it up. Ultimately, my goal is to have a schedule. Monday's I do this. Thursday is business night...match up transactions, etc. I have just had a hard time catching up so I can start a schedule. Does that make sense???

How are you finding using QB? I've used Quicken for years and found 20 minutes every Tuesday that I've tagged as 'desk day' is sufficient to track finances with an extra 20 minutes after dinner on the final day of each month to run final portfolio figures.

How do you feel about trying [FlyLady's] ETE? Would you be willing to commit to conscientiously trying the system for the 21 days they say it takes to set a habit?
